The Kennedy Center is not just a D.C. cultural center but a national cultural center. The large building overlooks the Potomac and provides a beautiful yet imposing way to view some of the most amazing performing artists from across the nation and around the world. The five theatres the Opera House Millennium Stage Concert Hall Terrace Theatre Eisenhower Theater and Theatre Lab host dancers musicians and actors in a variety of themes ranging from the new and cutting edge.

Sustaining a good chunk of D.C.'s artistic scene the Center is home to the Washington Opera Washington Ballet Washington Performing Arts Society the National Symphony Orchestra and the American Film Institute. Catch one of these groups or a performance from the International Programs or the Fortas Chamber Music program for free.

The freebies aren't the only way to enjoy the Kennedy Center offerings. They also provide programs for the interested audience member. Many touring companies participate in post-performance discussions or pre-performance gatherings to talk about history artistic creation or a performer's personal connection to the arts. Performances aren't even always that pricey. Typical prices range from $20s to $60s and discounts are often available to students directly before a performance.

The Kennedy Center's restaurant The Roof Terrace & Bar offers an impressive view of the skyline and serves what can be best described as a modern American adaptation of classic cuisine.
