This 18th century Georgian mansion, a registered National Historic Landmark in Carroll Park in southwest Baltimore, was built by Charles Carroll, Barrister in 1760 as the center of his 800 acre Patapsco River plantation. Visitors may tour the mansion and see the rooms and objects of everyday life of the Carroll family. The museum hosts a number of history tours such as Mount Clare: A History of the Carroll Family in Residence, 1760-1850; Mistress of Mount Clare: Margaret Tilghman Carroll & Her World; and Revolutionary Women: Portraits of Independence, 1760-1960. School tours include Mount Clare's Traveling Trunk and Colonial Life Then and Now. There are special events that take place each month, which may include making hand-made ice-cream, and 18th century dance lesson and a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence.
