The Maryland School for the Deaf Columbia campus opened in 1973 as part of the planned community of Columbia to offer an educational program in the population center of the state. The campus is located in the Baltimore-Washington corridor and is near several major highways.


The campus' Elementary School serves Deaf students ages 4-12. The Transitional Department and Middle School serve deaf students with mild disabilities ages 4-16 offering additional support services in behavioral modification counseling occupational therapy physical therapy and psychiatric services.
