This Ellicott City museum is housed in the oldest railway station in America and offers a look at 19th century life and transportation, replete with reenactors playing the parts of 19th century Americans. The restored rooms of this 1830 railroad building display artifacts and private collections having to do with American history. An 1885 Freight House features an operating 40ft. scale model of the first thirteen miles of railroad in America, and visitors may also climb aboard a 1927 Caboose on as well as view other trains and train models. The museum has won acclaim for its three " living history" exhibits, which occur every year: Civil War: the Maryland Story, Roads to Rails: the birth and early development of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and the Holidays Model Train Gardens.
