Triumph of disruption, presented initially as a Master of Fine Arts thesis work at the University of Maryland, is a performance of dance, music, and theater that addresses America's methods of educating its youth. Using pop iconic imagery and popular music, Triumph is a funky, hip, and engaging journey entertaining the concept of disruption as a method to alleviate problems facing a particular group of young people. The curtain is lifted and the audience is immersed in an inner city classroom experience. Teaching artist and artistic director Kwame Shaka Opare has worked with a diverse group of Baltimore and DMV area youth and professionals, including Baltimore City teachers and students, to bring Triumph to the Baltimore Museum of Art. Creation of this work has been made possible in part by a Ruby's artist project grant from the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.
