As part of this season's continued celebration of the Baroque era, we explore the madrigal and its impact on music of our day. For over a century, the madrigal and its immediate relatives were the central secular vocal form in mainland Europe, giving polyphonic voice to the fiery texts of the great Italian poets. Its place in the local culture roughly paralleled modern-day a cappella groups, celebrating the time-honored tropes of love, desire, and our place in the universe. Our concert will feature the world premiere of Steven Feigenbaum's Immortal, as well as the local premiere of Te amo sin saber cómo by Colin Britt.
