In this series of four workshops, Walters conservators, scientists, and educators explore the many connections between science and art. Using examples from the paintings collection, participants will focus on distinguishing an authentic Renaissance work from a forgery. While an painting might appear characteristic of the 14th to the 17th century , the materials that produced the work might actually date from a later era. Participants will learn how conservators analyze the materials and specific details in a painting to detect clues that lead to the discovery of fakes.
