Love, sex, deception, money, high fashion and intrigue amidst the beau monde. These are the ingredients from the Rivals of the West, MICA’s student theater company, spring 2015 production, The Man of Mode (or Sir Fopling Flutter) by Sir George Etherege, first produced in London in 1676. The Man of Mode is the quintessential comedy of the Restoration in England, which marked the return of King Charles II from France and the re-opening of the theaters after their suppression during the 20-year Puritan Interregnum (a period “between reigns”).
