“The Life” wasn’t far from mine presents a collaborative art exhibition with The Samaritan Women (TSW), Jubilee Arts Baltimore and Martha’s Place. Curator Jennifer Gray will present newly commissioned and existing works from artists Ashton Page, Deletta Gillespie, Krithika Sathyamurthy, and Mandy Chesney. This exhibition will also include art work by human trafficking survivors. The four visual artists’ works will be inspired by the time they have spent with the survivors, actively listening to their voices, and their struggles and triumphs. This exhibition intends to present contemporary work that raises awareness, encourages discussion, and challenges public attitudes about modern day slavery. By displaying their work together, a dynamic and powerful conversation can develop against the undermining nature of stereotypes, entrapment, and emotional abuse.
