From its opening in 1887 to becoming the largest steel mill in the world, with 31,000 workers, to its closure in 2012, the Sparrows Point plant, and its incorporated town, helped defined industrial and post-industrial America. Sparrows Point has long been and remains a major landmark in Baltimore County. Bill Barry, retired Director of Labor Studies at CCBC-Dundalk, is publishing a new book, We Always Told Steel Stories, with oral histories of workers at the Point.
