It’s spring! That means it’s time to spring energy and action—and your springboard is poetry! Join us for a poetry/spoken word open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village! In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, come drop some progressive “fiyah” on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy! By the way: it’s a non-erotic poetry, non-“love jones” type of venue, so we ask that you not go there. (And, almost needless to say, leave the misogyny, homophobia and other unnecessary ish outside!) It’s time for the incisive words of Robert Owens! Through poetry and prose, Robert attempts to dismantle the world around him into phrases that make sense, into stanzas that are approachable. Robert was the poet presenter at the 2013 James River Writers Conference in Richmond, Virginia, speaking to an audience of 500+ conference goers. He has also featured in multiple poetry venues across the state of Virginia and reached the city finals for Richmond’s National Poetry Slam team twice. Mr. Owens currently runs CommonWealth Slam Poetry Readings and Events in Fredericksburg, Virginia (commonwealthslam.com).
