In his paintings and sculptures, MFA candidate Claxton uses satire to examine popular misconceptions of blackness in contemporary society. He seeks out cultural intersections between “blerds” (black nerds) and “otaku” (Japanese nerds), combining the distinctive visual language of anime and manga with Western realism.
