Lymphedema, a common problem that can be caused by cancer and cancer treatment, occurs when the lymph system is damaged or blocked. Many health practitioners have recognized the benefits of practicing qigong to help prevent lymphedema or to help reduce its symptoms. Join Christine Hudacek, physical therapist at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, to learn how to recognize the early warning signs of lymphedema, what you can do to reduce your risk and ways to manage lymphedema once it develops. Following the discussion, Pamela Tanton will teach you a series of movements, all done while seated, called Healing Qigong. These movements can assist with lymphedema management and are designed to open up, energize and relax your body and your mind. RSVP to Hopewell at 410-832-2719.
