Meet the Ballet Master of the iconic dance company, Dance Theatre of Harlem. Saunders, a Baltimore, Maryland native, appears as part of the opening weekend for the exhibition Dance Theatre of Harlem: Forty Years of Firsts. Saunders joined the company in 1975, dancing under the tutelage of William Griffith and founders Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook. Saunders rose to become principal dancer and was appointed as Ballet Master in 1996. Saunders has also directed Dancing Through Barriers®, Dance Theatre of Harlem's international education and outreach initiative.
