Celebrate Earth Day as the National Park Service staff plants Holly trees and other species on the grounds of Hampton National Historic site. A number of plantings will be the native species that once flourished on the Ridgely estate. Following the planting ceremony National Park Service specialists from the Frederick Law Olmstead Center will give a special presentation about Hampton's cultural landscape report. This report sets forth a master plan for restoring the site's grounds back to their historic appearance. A special tour comparing the Mansion's modern geothermal heating/cooling system to the use of spring water in cooling the original 1790s dairy building will be given after the program.
