Complementing Pearls on a String, this exhibition explores the movement of people, art, and ideas between France and the Middle East during the second half of the 19th century. Through selected works from the collection, Gérôme and His Circle presents a new perspective on the relationships among French artists, dealers, and elite Ottoman patrons, whose tastes for contemporary French art were shared by museum founder William T. Walters and his fellow American collectors.
