Discover what true philanthropy looks like with inspiration from the “courage of conviction” of Elisha Tyson, an early Baltimore leader, abolitionist and philanthropist. Reconsider the contributions of “the Big Four” Philanthropists of 19th Century Baltimore: George Peabody, Enoch Pratt, William and Henry Walters, and Johns Hopkins, whose gifts of educational, medical, and social institutions are used and enjoyed by Baltimoreans to this very day. Presentations by Mark Thistel and Wayne Schaumburg, as well as guided tours of Hopkins’ former home, Clifton Mansion. Sponsored by Civic Works’ Legacy Education Program.
