On the weekend prior to Mother’s Day 2015, 100 Women in Hats will present “CROWNS” a pre- Mother’s day event. Proceeds from the event will benefit Susan B. Komen of Maryland and the 100 Women in Hats Scholarship fundraiser. Our guest will be treated to a fashion show, art for sale (from local artist), vendors, silent auction, gospel choirs, give-a-ways, live jazz, and for the first time in the Owings Mills the off Broadway play “CROWNS”. The co-author\photographer will also be attending the event to sign his book “Crowns”. CROWNS: A moving and celebratory musical play in which a young black woman has come down South to stay with her aunt. Hats are everywhere, in exquisite variety, and the characters use the hats to tell tales concerning everything from the etiquette of hats to their historical and contemporary social functioning. There is a hat for every occasion, from flirting to churchgoing, from funerals to baptisms, and the tradition of hats is traced back to African rituals and slavery and forward to the New Testament and current fashion.
