2640docs is proud to present an evening of short documentaries by Jonna McKone & Theo Anthony. Featuring “A Year in Voicemails” and “Yields” by Jonna McKone and "Peace in the Absence of War" and “Coffin Maker” by Theo Anthony. The filmmakers will attend the screening and take part in a Q&A. Synopses: “A Year in Voicemails” asks us to consider the nature of the artifacts we leave behind, particularly audio voicemails, recorded and performed, with expectation of being quickly deleted. “Yields” A meditation on the failure of industrial promise through a series of short vignettes that combine to express how absurdly intertwined a place can become with what it produces. In this case the production and processing of poultry. "Peace in the Absence of War" Footage culled from a concert held by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in downtown Baltimore on April 27th, 2015, along with various demonstrations on that same day. On May 9th, 2015, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra held another free concert, this time in the West Baltimore neighborhood of Freddie Gray's arrest. “Coffin Maker” Filmed throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final days of a devastating three-year war, “Coffin Maker” weaves together three separate journeys: a coffin maker in Goma, front line footage of a rebel army in retreat, and a mass funeral for military officers killed in the conflict. It is a study of death in theory, practice and consequence, and ultimately, how a culture interprets loss as justification for its future.
